Lewis County warns of two child luring attempts in the same block

PE ELL, Wash. -- The Lewis County Sheriff's Office is warning parents to talk to their children about "stranger danger" after two luring attempts late last week.

According to sheriff's officials, a man in a pickup truck asked a 10-year-old boy to get into his vehicle around 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The subject reportedly told the boy if he got into the truck, he would give him money and a game.

The boy said no and told the man he lived nearby, according to officials, and the man drove away east on State Route 6.

He was described as a white man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt pulled down over his head. The truck was described as a dark blue Ford Ranger extended cab with a green pinstripe on the door.

Officials said the same man asked a different 10-year-old boy to get into his vehicle on Saturday around 7:30 p.m. They said the man offered him an Xbox if he got into the pickup, but the boy refused and said he lived close by.

Authorities said the man drove off westbound on State Route 6.

"The boys did an excellent job avoiding the offers to get into the vehicle and reported the incidents to their parents and the parents contacted law enforcement," said Mike Hartnett with the Pe Ell Marshal's Office. "Parents should talk to their children about safety plans when a stranger attempts to lure them into their vehicles."

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
