Latest election poll: Which statewide measures appear to have strongest support?

SEATTLE -- With voters already sending in ballots for Tuesday's general election, Washingtonians are starting to pay a lot more attention to the major issues before them.

Three big statewide initiatives are generating millions of dollars in campaign spending to try to sway votes.  And new poll numbers show just how effective those efforts have been.

The survey, conducted by KCTS-9/Washington Poll, has for several years proved quite accurate predicting elections.

Initiative 594:  Gun Background Checks

Initiative 594 would expand background checks to all gun purchases and transfers.  It’s being bankrolled by local billionaires Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer, as well as former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.  They have outspent opponents by more than 10 to 1.  Here are the results:

That’s a strong showing for I-594 and shows that it’s likely headed to victory.

Initiative 591:  National Gun Background Check Standard

This is a measure that is being sponsored by gun rights advocates, and would prevent any background check system that isn’t consistent with the federal standard.  Results:

There is much less support for this gun measure than I-594.  While there are still a somewhat large group of undecided voters, I-591 is in a tough spot given support is under 50%,

      Initiative 1351:  Class Size Reduction

This would mandate class size reduction throughout the K-12 public education system.  Here’s the latest:

Clearly, strong support for this measure.  It appears headed for victory.
