Investigators review video of Kelso police shooting in stick attack

KELSO, Wash. (AP) — Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from inside a Kelso gas station food mart where an officer shot and killed an assault suspect.

The Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office says longtime Kelso patrolman John Johnston shot and killed a 27-year-old man after he attacked a clerk, a customer and the officer himself with a 4-foot-long wooden staff Wednesday morning.

The sheriff's office says it plans to release the video to the public as soon as Friday, as well as audio of police radio communications about the shooting.

The Cowlitz County coroner's office was still trying to confirm the suspect's identity.
