In Federal Way, cops issue 'tickets' for good behavior to kids, teens -- along with gift cards

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Officers launched a new campaign Wednesday to issue tickets to teenagers and children and reward good behavior with a certificate to Wild Waves, the movies or the mall.

Organizers of the campaign believe the Federal Way Police Department is the only one in the region with this 'Positive Tickets' campaign.

Public Information Officer Kathy Shrock said, "What it’s going to do is give our officers just one more tool, one more opportunity to open up the conversation and make that first connection with a young person in our city."

When officers see children using the crosswalk or riding their bikes with a helmet on, officers might pull over to reward them with the certificate and gift card.

Officers hope the positive interactions with children will help them build a good foundation with the youth in town.
