Hope Solo speaks out on domestic assault allegations, U.S. soccer suspension in tearful interview (VIDEO)

NEW YORK -- Hope Solo made some horrible decisions during the worst month of her life, she said. But now she's ready to turn things around.

In a one-on-one interview with ABC's Robin Roberts on "Good Morning America" Wednesday, Solo talked about her recent scandal involving a U.S. Women's National Soccer Team van and a charge of domestic violence levied by her 17-year-old nephew.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist is more often than not cited for her problems off the field, not her success on. Solo is married to former Seattle Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens, who is also no stranger to controversy. Stevens was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence behind the wheel of the soccer team van in January. Solo was suspended for the team for 30 days because of her involvement in the incident.

In the emotional interview that saw Solo shed a few tears, the soccer star declined to discuss the details of the alleged fight with her nephew, saying only that she was the victim in the incident.

"I was the victim of domestic violence," she said. "It was a very scary night."

She did, however, say letting Stevens take the wheel of the U.S. team's van in January was a terrible decision.

"Clearly I wasn't thinking," Solo said. "It was a horrible choice."

She continued:

"I think I just wasn't in a good place, emotionally, to even make good decisions," the 33-year-old Solo told Roberts. "I mean, it's not an excuse but I just, it was stupid. I should've called a taxi."

Now, Solo is turning her attention back to soccer. She's currently with the national team at a tournament in Portugal, and is gearing up for the Women's World Cup this summer, she said.

"I'm not going to be too hard on myself right now," Solo said. "Everybody makes mistakes, everybody learns from them... I'm a work in progress, I will continue to be a work in progress until the end of my days."
