He cannot lie: Seattle man laughs about ending up with Sir Mix-A-Lot's old phone number

SEATTLE -- A Seattle man is getting text messages meant for a Seattle musical icon -- and he cannot lie.

"I have Sir Mix-A Lot's old 206 phone number," said Jonathan Nichols, laughing.

Now he's talking about getting a new phone number as it made him feel like he had a "Posse on Broadway."

Nichols, a lawyer, never considered himself a baller -- he just wanted a new cell phone.

And he decided to get a new 206 number along with it. It didn't take long for the text messages and phone calls to start pouring in -- with pictures of women wearing bikinis and offers for luxury cars.

"Then I realized this guy is probably famous," Nichols said. "It wasn't until his birthday and my phone started blowing up and I knew who the celebrity is -- and now I don't care if it's disruptive, it's just funny."

But, of course, there's a big but...

While Nichols has never spoken to Sir Mix-A-Lot directly, others have passed along a message from Mix, whose real name is Anthony Ray: Don't check any text messages on that phone in front of your wife.

Nichols said he's had offers on his voicemail for free concert tickets and visits to go backstage. But as a lawyer, he can't represent himself and take advantage of those offers.
