Gunman walks up to family in Des Moines, shoots father

DES MOINES - Police are looking for man who reportedly walked up to a family in Des Moines and fired multiple gunshots, wounding the father Thursday morning.

The father, mother and adult son, were reportedly standing in the doorway of an apartment building to get out of the rain when the gunman opened fire, police said.

The suspect approached the family, possibly homeless, in the 21600 block of 30th Avenue South around 1 am Thursday, police said.

Police and medics responded and found the victim bleeding heavily from a gunshot to the leg, police said.   The victim was transported to the hospital in serious condition.
