Forks woman arrested in death of 2-year-old boy in her care

FORKS, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say a woman from Forks has been arrested for the death of a 2-year-old boy.

The Clallam County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that deputies arrested 44-year-old Ramona Ward Thursday.

The sheriff's office says Ward called 911 Wednesday to report that a toddler left in her care was unresponsive. Authorities say local medical staff identified injuries that appeared consistent with abuse and neglect including a traumatic brain injury. The child was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where the boy died Friday morning at the hospital, authorities said.

Clallam County Sheriff's detectives, along with detectives from neighboring agencies, arrested Ward after executing a search warrant and interviewing her at her home.

She's being held in jail on a second-degree murder charge.

Authorities continue to investigate.
