SEATTLE -- The Secret Service is investigating word of a possible security breach involving Sears, according to a report by Bloomberg.
The news service cited sources familiar with the investigation who said that federal agents were working with the digital forensics unit at Verizon, checking for traces of hackers.
Verizon would not comment on whether it was involved in an investigation. Sears, however, emailed a statement to Bloomberg, saying that while it was reviewing its systems to see whether a security breach happened, it had not found any information indicating one as of yet.
The news of a possible breach followed what has already been a troubling time for Sears. Bloomberg reported that the retailer has experienced 28 straight quarters of declining sales.
The Secret Service is already working on investigations of recent security breaches at Target and Neiman Marcus, which affected several million U.S. consumers
