Everett School Board president resigns

SNOHOMISH COUNTY -- Everett School Board President Jeff Russell has resigned, ending his six-year term two years ahead of schedule, the Everett Herald reports.

Russell left the position on Sunday after saying he was in need of a "change." In a statement read by Superintendent Gary Cohn and Vice President Carol Andrews Sunday, Russell said he was proud of the work he has done since he was elected in 2009.

"During the last four years I have appreciated the opportunity to make a positive difference," Russell said in a statement.

Andrews will take over as the interim school board president, leaving the vice president position open.
