Everett Police seek to limit sales of certain alcoholic beverages

EVERETT, Wash. — Police in Everett want city officials to strengthen restrictions on selling certain cheap alcoholic beverages in parts of the city.

The Daily Herald reports the city passed an ordinance earlier this year asking the city's retailers to voluntarily stop selling alcoholic products associated with incidents of littering, trespassing, criminal mischief and theft.

Everett Police Lt. Bruce Bosman said this week he wants the city to make the ordinance mandatory because only 15 percent of retailers are participating and incidents are only down slightly.

State law allows so-called alcohol impact areas if they target a specific geographic area and a list of specific products.

The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board would need to approve any measure to create an alcohol impact area mandate.
