Everett man fatally shoots girlfriend: 'I dropped the gun and it shot someone'

EVERETT, Wash. -- A 22-year-old man is facing manslaughter charges after he accidently shot his girlfriend in their Everett apartment Thursday night.

According to court records, Jonathan 'John' Duncan told authorities he was playing with a handgun when it went off striking the victim in the chest.

The victim, who has not been identified, later died at the hospital.
Two 911 calls were made after the shooting. In the first call, a 911 operator heard a man say, "I dropped the gun, and it shot someone." A few seconds later the line disconnected, court records say.
Duncan also told police on the scene that "It was an accident," and "I didn't even mean to do it."

Another couple was in the apartment at the time of the shooting but they were watching TV in another room.
