Escape attempt at Idaho jail foiled by razor wire

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP)  - Authorities say a man tried to escape an Idaho jail but was stopped by razor wire and a corrections officer.

The Idaho State Journal reports that Bannock County Sheriff's Office says a Fort Hall man being held at the county's detention center in Pocatello tried to escape on Sunday morning by bursting through an emergency fire exit door.

Officials say the 30-year-old man then tried to climb a 10-foot-tall fence but got tangled in razor wire at the top. A corrections officer who was on his first day of the job caught him during the attempted escape.

The inmate was treated for small cuts and scratches from the razor wire.

Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen says this is the jail's first serious escape attempt.
