Elderly woman struck, killed by King County Metro bus at Northgate; police investigating



SEATTLE -- A woman believed to be in her 90s was struck and killed Thursday by a King County Metro bus at the Northgate Transit Center, the Seattle Police Department said.

Police received reports just after 3 p.m. that a bus had struck a woman. Seattle Fire Depratment medics arrived and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

Witnesses at the scene sid the woman had been in a crosswalk, and that the woman was hit and dragged by the bus.  Authorities said the bus driver is a 27-year-old veteran Metro driver.

Police said an SPD Drug Recognition Expert tested the driver and found no obvious signs of impairment.

SPD Traffic Collision investigators were reviewing the circumstances of the crash and working to identify the woman, who is believed to be in her 90s.

Officers have closed NE 100th Street between 1st and 5th Avenue NE as the investigation continues.
