Eastbound I-90 reopens after multiple afternoon crashes

NORTH BEND, Wash. -- Multiple crashes prompted authorities to close eastbound Interstate 90 at North Bend to Elk Heights (milepost 34-94).

Washington State Troopers says they are investigating at least three major crashes where drivers lost control on the snow-packed road, including one rollover involving an 11-year-old boy.

State Trooper Brian Moore said that incident happened at milepost 94 near Cle Clum. The 11-year-old was ejected from the vehicle. Troopers say he was rushed to Harborview Medical Center. No word on his condition. Ten other vehicles were involved in that crash.

A second incident happened at milepost 79. Three cars were involved in that collision which killed one person.

A third crash also happened at milepost 79. Moore said six cars were involved in that collision which left a person in critical condition.

Moore said, there are several additional single-car crashes sprinkled along the pass. At this time, it is not possible for WSP to get a firm number on how many.

WSDOT urges drivers to avoid the area and to take alternate routes. The interstate is estimated to reopen at 8 p.m.
