Dungeness Seaworks of Sequim recalls canned albacore tuna

SEQUIM, Wash. (AP) — Dungeness Seaworks of Sequim, Washington, is voluntarily recalling cans of albacore tuna with any code starting with "OC' because it may be contaminated with botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning.

The company warns consumers that the product may not look or small spoiled but it could still cause life-threatening illness or death.

The codes can be found on either the bottom or the top of the metal cans.

There have been no reported cases of illness related to the canned tuna. The voluntary recall began after a federal inspection discovered some products may have been under-processed.

The tuna was sold at stores in Sequim, Agnew and Poulsbo, Washington, as well as farmer's markets in Poulsbo and Port Angeles. The last date of distribution of recalled products was September 2015.

Consumers who have purchased cans of tuna are encouraged to return them for a full refund.
