Driver killed, two others hurt after early morning crash in Centralia

CENTRALIA, Wash. -- A driver was killed and two passengers hurt after he lost control while speeding away from a police officer.

According to Centralia police, an officer tried to pull over the car around 2:15 a.m. on W 6th St. The driver refused to stop and the patrol officer was not able to keep up with the car.

The officer watched the driver speed through several stop signs. The officer then found the car had crashed into a residence near N Pearl St.

Police said the 19-year-old driver and one passenger were both ejected from the car. The officer and firefighters attempted life-saving measures, but the driver died at the scene.

Both passengers were airlifted to area hospitals.

It's unclear why the driver fled police. The Washington State Patrol is investigating.
