District reviews building projects after 16-year-old's fatal fall at construction site

SILVERDALE, Wash. (AP) — Central Kitsap School District officials are reviewing upcoming building projects after a girl died after falling from a ladder at a school construction site.

The Kitsap Sun reports that 16-year-old Emily Ramm and another person accessed the closed Silverdale Elementary School on Aug. 13 to watch the Perseid meteor shower. She fell from a ladder and died at a hospital.

The Kitsap County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

The school has been undergoing a remodel since July 2015 and is expected to be completed this month.

District spokesman David Beil says contractors assume control of the site during a construction project and bear liability. The district is reviewing contracts for upcoming projects to reduce the potential for similar incidents.

Ramm was a student at North Kitsap High School.
