Deputies: Man shot cat with arrow for knocking down garbage cans, harassing other cats

PHOENIX, Ore. (AP) — A southern Oregon man has been accused of shooting a neighbor's cat with an arrow because it harassed his own cats and knocked over his garbage cans.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says the man called the cat a nuisance.

Deputies said in an affidavit the arrow went completely through the cat's abdomen. It was treated at a pet hospital and is expected to survive.

Officers said they were called Friday by people caring for the cat.

The Mail Tribune reports that 25-year-old Cody Edward Daigneault made an initial court appearance Monday on an animal abuse charge. Court records list no lawyer has been appointed yet.

According to the Mail Tribune, no one saw Daigneault shoot the cat, but several people pointed to him as the culprit.

Deputies say Daigneault lives near Phoenix, outside Medford. He was held without bail on a probation violation from an unrelated assault case.
