Deputies: Man attacked 16-year-old girl on hiking trail

WENATCHEE -- Police are investigating after a 16-year-old girl was attacked on a hiking trail Tuesday evening in Wenatchee,

Around 7 p.m., the girl was out for a hike on the Saddlerock Trail when she noticed a man approaching her from further up the trail, the Chelan County Sheriff's Office said. With headphones in, the girl exchanged smiles with the man and the two passed.

A moment later, however, the man approached the girl from behind and started talking to her, deputies said. The man then grabbed her around the waist and pulled her toward him. Luckily, the girl was able to break free and yell. The man took off down the trail.

The girl called 911 from the trail and reported the assault. When deputies arrived at the hiking trail, witnesses in the parking lot advised officers they saw a man running down the hill, get into a car and leave.

The man was described as Hispanic, in his late 30s, about 5-foot-7 with short hair. He was reported to be wearing a black t-shirt.

Anyone with information on the assault is encouraged to call the Chelan County Sheriff's Tip Line at 509-667-6845
