Deputies: Driver dies after Jeep plunges into icy lake

EATONVILLE -- A man was found dead in a submerged Jeep Tuesday night after he apparently drove off a road and plunged into a lake.

According to Pierce County Sheriff's Det. Ed Troyer, deputies received calls of a witness seeing a partially submerged Jeep in Alder Lake around 7:20 p.m. near the intersection of National Park Highway and Alder Cutoff Road East in Eatonville.

Divers called to the scene helped pull the man in his 60s from the water and tried to resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's name was not immediately released.

Detectives are not sure what caused the man's car to leave the roadway.

Investigators are looking into all possibilities, Troyer said, including the potential that icy roads caused the driver to lose traction and crash into the lake.
