DROGHEDA, Ireland -- A would-be car thief in Ireland was apparently thwarted by his own weapon of choice and then thwarted again when he tried to pin the blame on someone else.
Surveillance video just posted to YouTube shows a man approach a white Mercedes sedan parked on a dark street.
The man tries to break a window by throwing something at the glass, but fails.
The man leaves and returns with a much larger item that looks like brick.
The man is then seen throwing the brick at the car's window only to have the brick seemingly bounce back and strike the man knocking him to the ground.
Irish newspaper the Independent spoke to the owner of a nearby pub who says he found the man on the street.
“When I saw him, he was lying there stone cold on the ground and his face was in ribbons,” said Gerry Brady, owner of the Pheasant pub in Drogheda.
Brady told the newspaper the man then came to and demanded money.
“I see you, I know you. I’ll burn you out. I’ll tell the gardas you beat me up. I’ll go to my solicitor,” the man told Gerry.
The man apparently did try to tell the police he had been attacked by the pub owner. So Brady brought them the surveillance video.
"You should have heard the garda laughing when they saw the video. They were in stitches. Credit to them, they were straight out when we called and found the guy within minutes.”
The whole thing is now under investigation.
