Bremerton woman gets life in prison for deadly fire

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) — A woman found guilty of setting a Bremerton house fire that killed her boyfriend has been sentenced to life in prison.

The Kitsap Sun reports (http://goo.gl/ICAyRA ) 46-year-old Shelly Margaret Arndt was sentenced Monday without the possibility of early release. She was convicted in November of aggravated murder and other charges in connection to the February 2014 fire that killed 37-year-old Darcy Veeder Jr.

Arndt was also convicted of arson and six counts of second-degree assault, one for each person who had escaped the fire. Arndt's twin sister, other family members and friends had been in the house when it caught fire.

Veeder had been asleep on a couch in an upstairs living room.

Arndt's attorney argued that the county didn't provide enough evidence proving the fire was intentionally set.
