Boeing inspecting Dreamliners for wing cracks

SEATTLE -- Boeing said it was inspecting about 40 of its 787 Dreamliner jets for possible "hairline cracks" on the wings, according to a statement Friday.

dreamlinerThe cracks were reported to the company by its supplier, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, which said the issue may have been caused by a change in its manufacturing process.

Boeing said it did not believe that any of the Dreamliners currently in service were affected.

The wing inspection is expected to take up to two weeks, and may only impact some immediate deliveries but not those planned for the rest of 2014.
