Bodies of 4 people found after Oregon Coast motel fire

NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) — Four bodies were discovered in the rubble of a motel fire along the Oregon Coast.


KPTV-TV reports (http://goo.gl/TgtVcN ) Newport fire crews responded to the City Center Motel in Newport Friday morning.

Crews evacuated the motel and put out the blaze with assistance from multiple agencies. The Days Inn Hotel next door was also evacuated as the fire began to spread, but it was quickly contained.

Newport Police say the bodies of two motel occupants were discovered Friday afternoon and two more were found Friday night. They have not been identified.

Three other motel guests were treated for minor injuries while a fourth suffered burns and smoke inhalation and was taken to a burn center.

Police say the majority of the motel suffered major fire damage.

Investigators determined the fire started in a ground-level room. The cause is under investigation.

A portion of Highway 101 was closed for hours.
