At least 14 sickened, 3 dead from Thanksgiving meal

San Francisco Bay Area health officials now say at least 17 people, including three who died, were sickened after eating food from a community Thanksgiving meal.

Contra Costa Health Services officials told a news conference Tuesday that one person remained hospitalized and the rest were recovering at home.

County health officials say the likely cause of the illness was food-borne.

All those who got sick ate food from the same Thanksgiving meal hosted by a church in Antioch, California. Not all 17 people attended the meal; some ate leftovers brought home to them.

Initial word on the illness came Monday, when eight cases were reported including the three deaths.

The 835 diners at the meal included homeless people, residents of assisted living facilities and anyone who wanted to have a holiday meal.
