Appeals Court orders release of SPU footage from shooting

SEATTLE (AP) — The Washington state Court of Appeals has upheld a ruling ordering surveillance footage from a mass-shooting at Seattle Pacific University to be released.

The Monday decision says the court agrees that Washington's Public Records Act requires the videos to be disclosed with partial editing to protect certain identities.

Some students and witnesses seen in the footage, along with the university, objected to its release and appealed a previous court's ruling.

The June 2014 shooting at the university left one student dead and two others wounded.

Aaron Ybarra has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and is being held without bail while his case proceeds.

The footage may not be released immediately. Lawyers for the university and students could file a motion for reconsideration or review by the state Supreme Court.
