Accused shoplifter leads police on chase, injures several

FEDERAL WAY, Wash -- A man accused of stealing from a Macy’s store leads police on a wild chase, injuring several innocent drivers and a police officer.

Federal Way Police said 28-year-old Daniel Young grabbed some merchandise from Macy’s at the Commons, and then took off running around 4:12 p.m.

A mall police officer on a bike spotted Young in his car and tried to stop him, but police said Young intentionally hit the officer with his car.

The officer wasn’t hurt but police said Young then drove off on Pacific Highway.

As police chased him, they said he hit two cars at South 330th Street and he kept going, driving faster.

Police said as Young’s vehicle reached South 348th Street he crashed into three cars, which brought the chase to an end, allowing police to arrest Young.

Police said one of the driver’s hit was badly hurt and taken to Harborview Medical Center, while people in the other cars were expected to be okay.

Federal Police said Young had misdemeanor warrants for Theft 3 and for resisting arrest.

He’s now being charged with more crimes, including assault 1 of a police officer, eluding hit and run and theft charges.
