8-year-old girl killed, her mother injured in car accident in Centralia

CENTRALIA, Wash. -- An 8-year-old girl was killed and her mother was injured Monday when their car slammed into a parked, unoccupied pickup truck, police said.

The accident took place at Galvin Road and Gallagher Road at about 2:37 p.m. Monday, police said.

The mother was driving westbound on a two-lane road when her car crossed the center line and plowed into a parked pickup truck that was unoccupied on the shoulder, police said. The 8-year-old girl was in the back seat and wearing a seat belt, police said, but died of her injuries. The mother was airlifted to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center.

Police said there were no signs of alcohol at the scene.

The speed limit in the area is 35 mph.

The identities were not released.
