26-year-old woman riding on back of motorcycle dies in wrong-way crash in Burien

BURIEN, Wash. -- A 26-year-old woman riding on the back of a motorcycle traveling in the wrong direction was killed Monday night when the bike collided with a car in Burien. The driver of the motorcycle was arrested.

King County Sheriff's Sgt. Cindi West said deputies were called to an accident at S. 143rd and 1st Avenue South at about 8:20 p.m.

Witnesses said a motorcycle was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes on 1st Avenue South at a high rate of speed when it slammed into a northbound car. The woman died at the scene, West said, and the 25-year-old man who had been driving the motorcycle attempted to flee but was caught and arrested.

He received minor injuries and was being treated at Harborview Medical Center.

The driver of the car was not injured.
