2 killed in 12-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near Lacey; NB lanes closed for hours

LACEY, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say two people were killed in a crash involving nearly 10 vehicles on Interstate 5 near Lacey, closing all northbound lanes.

The Washington State Patrol said on Twitter the crash happened Tuesday evening, shortly after 6 p.m., just south of Marvin Road, leaving a semi-truck overturned and blocking all lanes.

At least three people were transported to the hospital with injuries, State Patrol Trooper Todd Bartolac said on Twitter.

The crash occurred when a tractor-trailer full of produce jack-knifed onto a car, killing two people inside. Officials say the semi driver came upon stopped traffic and wasn't able to stop quickly enough.

Bartolac was urging people to avoid using Interstate 5 in that area. Traffic was being rerouted to exit 111. Bartolac tweeted just before 11 p.m. that the right shoulder was opened to traffic.
