2 alleged victims in Hope Solo's assault case fail to show up for depositions

KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) — A judge has renewed an order for deposition for two key witnesses who failed to show up for an interview in soccer star Hope Solo's assault case.

Seattlepi.com reports (http://is.gd/Q6kYy9 ) that the two alleged victims — Solo's half-sister and nephew — did not appear for interviews Jan. 2. Kirkland Municipal Court Judge Michael Lambo on Tuesday ordered another deposition this week.

Solo, a goalie for the U.S. women's soccer team and the Seattle Reign professional club, is accused of two counts of assault stemming from an altercation at a party in June.

Her lawyer is seeking to have the charges dismissed on the grounds that the alleged victims are being willfully uncooperative.

Prosecutors argued Tuesday the pair didn't appear because they weren't served with subpoenas and there was inadequate time to notify them, given the New Year's Day holiday.

Trial is set Jan. 20.
