15-year-old boy robbed at gunpoint in Auburn; 2 suspects arrested, 3 at large

Auburn Police need help identifying three suspects accused of robbing a 15-year-old at gunpoint.

Authorities say the boy was robbed at gunpoint by teenagers at the Promenade Apartments around 2 p.m. Monday. They drove him to another location, and video captured them assaulting him and taking his clothes and cellphone.

The boy ran away after the robbery, with the suspects chasing him for just a short time before giving up. They went back to the car and drove off.

The victim can be seen on surveillance footage walking up a woman's driveway for help.

"I instantly opened the door and said ‘get in, get inside.’ and I noticed that he was beaten and bloody and shaking and crying and terrified," said Amanda Smart, who helped the teen.

"They were beating him up in the car. He said that one of them was like ‘shoot him in the leg, shoot him in the leg,’ one of them was beating him and he heard one of the other ones say 'move so I can shoot him," Smart recalled.

Officers responded to the 911 call and found the vehicle, which belonged to one of the suspect's parents.

Several people got out and ran, but authorities say they didn't have probable cause to follow them. Shortly after, however, authorities say probable cause was established, and officers used a K9 to start tracking the suspects. They found and arrested two girls, and are still looking for three more suspects.

Police said on Wednesday that upon further investigation this appeared to be an "orchestratred robbery and not a kidnapping" as initially believed. They said two female suspects lured the victim into a car before driving him to another location at the apartment complex where three males robbed him.

Anyone with information on the abduction or suspects is urged to call Auburn Police at (253) 931-3080.

"I just want to hug his mom, you know? Because being a mom is hard enough without stuff like this happening and I know that her heart has really got to be hurting about this. More often than not, us moms are gonna look out for another kid," Smart said.
