14-year-old boy arrested in connection with fatal Federal Way shooting appears in court

SEATTLE -- A 14-year-old middle school student arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy in Federal Way made his first appearance in juvenile court Monday.

The 14-year-old surrendered at the King County Juvenile Center Sunday night. Q13 News policy is not to name a detained child who is being prosecuted in juvenile court.

He and a 16-year-old boy are accused of fatally shooting high school student Wesley Gennings last week in an apparent dispute over marijuana. The 16-year-old defendant is expected to be charged as an adult. The 14-year-old could be charged later as an adult, too.
