Help give Afghan refugees a new start in Washington state

The images of Afghans fleeing Taliban rule are heartbreaking. Even for those who escape, the challenges ahead are profound.

Washington state expects hundreds of Afghans to resettle here – and many will arrive in our communities with nothing.

For these refugees, some of whom risked their lives to help the U.S. military, basic necessities can provide comfort and hope.

Q13 FOX, with the generous support of viewers, sponsored a week-long donation drive to collect welcome kits that will be distributed to refugee families through World Relief Seattle. The kits include everyday items such as towels, bedding, shampoo, dishes, and silverware.

During the drive, viewers purchased more than 10,000 items and dropped them off at Seattle City Hall, Marysville City Hall, Monroe City Hall, Bonney Lake City Hall, Lakewood City Hall, Kent City Hall, and Hellbent Brewing Company in Lake City. Another 800 items were purchased off our Amazon wish list. Thank you for your generosity. Your donations will help men, women, and children who have escaped Taliban rule settle into new lives in the United States.

While the donation drive has come to an end – the need has not. Those who wish to continue to help Afghan refugees as they settle into the Northwest can purchase gifts cards that can be sent directly to World Relief Seattle. Preferred gift cards are for the following retailers:
