Suspect on the run after deadly crash turns into homicide investigation in Spanaway

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department is investigating after a woman was found dead at a crash scene in Spanaway on Wednesday morning.

The crash happened on State Route 7 near 174th Street and Spanaway Loop Road South after 4:30 a.m.

Sgt. Darren Moss of the Pierce County Sheriff's Office tells FOX 13 that a 47-year-old woman collided head on with another car.

When that driver got out to check on her, she was unconscious.

First responders found she had a gunshot wound and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt. Moss said investigators are piecing together how and where she was shot, but her passenger side front window was broken.

People were asked to stay away as the S.W.A.T. team combed the woods off 174th and Spanaway Loop where the accident happened.

Authorities are still searching for a suspect.
