LAKE STEVENS - After more than a week of bone-chilling cold, snow finally arrived in western Washington. There was a dusting on streets and in neighborhoods. A sheet of ice around Lake Stevens made things very slippery.

One bus driver ended up in a ditch as he tried to avoid an accident. "The ice is slick here, but nobody was hurt that's the important thing" he said.

It was a dangerous situation with people in the middle of the slippery street trying to help each other. But whether it was shoes or tires, everything struggled to get traction. Sand trucks and plows stayed on the move trying to keep up with the ice and snow.

Snow means another night of below freezing temperatures and the potential for the problems that come with that. The McCarron family in Bothell came home to find one busted pipe and soon realized they actually had two.

"The water was gushing out and we saw it rolling all the way down to the back of the garage" Gwen McCarron said. The pipes were covered with insulation, but when it's this cold sometimes that's not enough.

Finding another leak means Pat McCarron will be making his third trip to the hardware store. "It's frustrating, you wonder what's next" McCarron said.
