WASHINGTON, D.C.—
A Seattle company is recalling children's hooded sweatshirts and jackets because the drawstrings can strangle kids.Century 21 Promotions, Inc. is recalling about 17,000 Youth Hooded Sweatshirts and Jackets because they can pose a strangulation hazard. The sweatshirts have a drawstring through the hood.
So far, no children have gotten hurt from these products, which were sold in sizes XS XXL in navy blue, black, brown, pink, red, white, green, grey, blue, yellow, and orange. They contain the following embroidered logos: "Montauk," "Avalon," "Stone Harbor," "Cape May," "Sea Isle," " Ocean City," " Alaska," "Nantucket," " Maine," " Long Beach Island," "Lavallette," "Seaside Park," "Newport," "Monterey," "Carmel," "Skaneateles," "1000 Islands," "Block Island" and "Seattle."
The recalled sweatshirts and jackets were sold in the following stores and gift shops: Seattle Shirt, Simply Seattle, Montauk Clothing, Riptide East, Shirt Shops of Cape May, Summer Sweats, Rip Current Sportswear, B&B Dept. Stores, Trapper Jack's, Annie & The Tees, Emporium, Inc., The Trading Co., Mackerel Jack's, Carmel Classics, Rolands, The Ship Gift Shop and Star Dept. Store from September 2005 through September 2009 for between $25 and $35. Most stores are located in New England with two stores each in Seattle and Alaska.
If you have one of these sweatshirts or jackets, remove the drawstrings or return the garment to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that parents buy children's outerwear that has snaps, buttons, Velcro or elastic instead of drawstrings and help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings.
