SNOHOMISH COUNTY - Thousands of cars use State Route 524 in Snohomish County every day. The speed limit is only 35 miles per hour, but you'd hardly know it. The Washington State Patrol has caught drivers going 60 on this curvy two lane highway.

Troopers say speed on S.R. 524 is particularly troubling because of the tragedies they've witnessed on the highway. The Q13 Fox News Speed Patrol joined forces with Troopers on Tuesday to put the brakes on speeders.

In just a few minutes it was easy to see why Washington State Patrol Trooper Keith Leary says State Route 524 is a racetrack.

"We're getting them at 51, 52, we've had them at 60 miles per hour through here," said Leary.

So, I had to ask these drivers why they were all in such a hurry. But, I didn't get much of response.

"What happened?" "No, No, No." "Is that the only word you know?"

"I don't want to be on camera." "Can I at least ask you how fast you were going?" "I don't know what I was doing I was listening to music."

"I don't want to be on." "Were you going pretty fast today?" "I don't want to be on thank you."

Troopers say one driver was speeding and also made another potentially-deadly mistake.

"Did you have your seat-belt on?" "No." "Mom, you didn't have your seat-belt on what happened?" "I know bad news I know."

Highway 524 also doubles as Filbert Road in Snohomish County. Trooper Leary says the section they were working today is just around the corner from where two young men were killed in a car crash on Saturday. They were going more than 70.

"Classic for speed. 35 mile an hour zone. We had a fatality just up the road near North Road just a few days back over the weekend," said Leary.

I wanted drivers to realize pushing their speed isn't worth it.

"So, I was just following the car in front of me and I wasn't paying attention. I'm sure he's right it is a bad road to speed on."

So, after all of these stops and tickets I wanted to drive the point home with drivers they need to slow it down.

"I was on my way to pick up my son which was supposed to be 5 minutes ago. That's no excuse."

"Were you speeding?" "I guess I was."
