GIG HARBOR - In the 24 hours ending late Monday afternoon, 3.85 inches of rain fell in Forks, on the Olympic Peninsula, with Hoquiam reporting 2 inches, Shelton at 1.73 inches and Port Angeles measuring 1.45 inches.

All that rain caused flooding in along the Skokomish and Satsop rivers along with other rovers, creeks and streams on the Olympic Peninsula and grays Harbor and Mason Counties.

Several side streets were cut off and some highways as well.

SR 112 North of Port Angeles was reduced to one lane because of mud and trees on the roadway.

A landslide destroyed a garage attached to a home in Gig Harbor Monday morning.

Gig Harbor Fire Department Battalion Chief Eric Pearson said the landslide at 29th Court Northwest was 50 feet wide and several hundred feet long.

The landslide also damaged two cars inside the garage.

Utilities in the home have been turned off as a precaution.

Pearson said the cause of the slide is still unknown, but it may be related to the wet and windy weather.

A geologist will examine the site later in the day.

There were no injuries.

The biggest part of the rain is expected between 11pm and 4am so the morning rush could be challenging.

Remember it only takes 24 inches of water on the road to carry away a car.
