Kent - The man accused of shooting Lt. Gov. Brad Owen's son has died.

Carlos Fernandez, died at Harborview Medical Center Wednesday afternoon after being in critical condition in intensive care.

37-year-old Mark Owen left the hospital Tuesday night after having surgery on his wrist. He was injured in the workplace shooting Monday.

Investigators say Carlos Fernandez, shot his business partner, 37-year-old Mark Owen, in the wrist and the stomach and then shot himself in the head at the family business on 5th Avenue South. 63-year-old Fernandez suffered life-threatening injuries.

Lt. Governor Owen says the man who shot his son is a close family friend.

"We're elated that Mark is OK, but, it is a horrible tragedy. Because, the person who shot my son is also one of my very, very best friends," said Owen.

According to Lt. Gov. Owen his son has worked for Fernandez for the last 3 years and recently became his business partner. Owen says they had a strained relationship.

"They've had a very difficult time both economically and personally with each other so," said Owen.

Scott Weldy works in the Office he was stunned by the violence.

"I still don't know what to think. I'm very distraught about it. They're quality people, I don't understand what happened," said Weldy.

Kent police say Lt. Gov. Owen has been fully cooperative with the investigation. Kent Police Chief Steve Strachan says, "Although there is never any reason or logic for violence in the work place, we are diligently investigating the circumstances that led up to this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lt. Gov. Owen and his family at this very difficult time".
