SEATTLE -
Christopher Monfort is facing a first-degree aggravated murder charge as well as four other charges as he is recovering at Harborview Medical Center in stable condition.
King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg revealed details at a news conference Friday morning. He says Monfort intended to kill several police officers in three seperate incidents. They allege Monfort wanted to kill as many police officers as possible and that he was planning on more incidents.
Monfort may face life in prison or the death penalty if he is convicted of these charges.
They say they have a ballistic match from bullets of a gun they found in his home to the gun that killed Officer Brenton. In addition, they have a DNA match from items that were left at the arson scene and at Officer Brenton's murder.
Prosecutors allege that he had placed bombs under police cars at an arson several weeks ago. They believe his intent was to kill officers at the time.
King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg say: "His anger toward police was punctuated by a large hunting knife with an American flag affixed to the handle which was plunged through the roof of a patrol car."
In addition, he is facing attempted murder charges for the shooting of Officer Britt Sweeney. He is also facing attempted murder charges for trying to shoot Sgt. Gary Nelson the day Monfort was shot.
Monfort is facing a list of charges: One count of aggravated murder for killing Officer Brenton, one count of attempted murder for shooting Officer Britt Sweeney, One count of arson and attempted murder for the arson bombing at a police car yard and one count of attempted murder for trying to shoot Sgt. Gary Nelson.
These charges are punishable by death or life in prison without parole. The prosecutor's office has 30 days to decide on the death penalty.
Q13 Fox News has also learned Christopher Monfort was paralyzed from the waste down when he was shot by detectives trying to bring him in last Friday.
A source tells Q-13 FOX News, the man accused of shooting and killing Seattle Police Officer Tim Brenton applied, not just to The Seattle Police Department, but to the Los Angeles Police Department as well.
Some say it could very well give us a clue as to his motive. If he was rejected by both departments, that could have planted a seed of hatred for police officers. Even though, with a Degree in Law he clearly had a fondness for law enforcement.
Meanwhile, neighbors are feeling lucky Monfort never carried out what the cops say were the rest of his plans.
Neighbor Simon Tekeste says, "He seemed very descent guy. I was shocked when I heard about the bombing stuff. I was so shocked."
Neighbor Jessica Orozco says, "The thought of him just being here, kinda scary.
At Harborview Medical Center, Monfort has been moved out of ICU. His condition is listed as satisfactory.
He met with his attorney Tuesday in his hospital room, but she did not respond to our request for an interview.
Meanwhile a source close to the investigation confirmed child pornography was found on Monfort's computer and investigators continue to analyze it to make sure he wasn't e-mailing anyone about the ambush and murder of Officer Tim Brenton.
