KIRKLAND—
Johanna Palmer of "Citizens for One Kirkland" says more than 400 of their signs are gone and many others damaged. In some cases the signs were ripped right in half. She says they cost about $2,000.Palmer says her group supports annexation of Kingsgate, Finn Hill and north Juanita into the city of Kirkland.
Someone wrote angry messages about the Kirkland Police Department on some of the campaign signs.
She says if the annexation is approved, one of the big benefits is additional patrols from Kirkland Police.
Palmer says, "Well, it's a little concerning. We don't think they're a threat to anybody. But with this level of anger, we're not sure."
She says they've reported the thefts and vandalism to the sheriff's office and police.
Palmer says the group that opposes the annexation has also had signs stolen.
The King County Prosecutor's Office says it's illegal to remove or deface political signs. It's a misdemeanor and the punishment can include jail time.
