SEATTLE -
Take a look in your back yard and face it: with the start of autumn it's time to harvest those fruit trees if you haven't already. But don't worry. There are a few free services that can help you out.
Volunteer fruit pickers from the groups Solid Ground and City Fruit are helping clean up trees all over the city. Some volunteers will even show you how to care for your trees and prune them so they'll keep producing. The fruit goes to local food banks, where it's greatly appreciated. Sadie Beauregard from Solid Ground says, "We really encourage people to donate in their neighborhood, so it's really bringing the food that's in your backyard to places in your area that could really use it and people that are really grateful to have it."
For more information on harvesting your tree with City Fruit, follow this link. To reach Solid Ground's "Lettuce Link" program, call 206-694-6754 or email lettucelink@solid-ground.org.
