Yet Another Cougar Sighting -- But This One's Closer To The Cascade Mountains
SNOQUALMIE - Families in the city of Snoqualmie are being told to be on high alert -- especially if they have children -- after a report of a cougar roaming through the area.

Someone reported seeing the cougar near Meadowbrook Farm, a 460-acre public open space on the Snoqualmie Valley floor. The area straddles the cities of Snoqualmie and North Bend.

The person who saw the cougar reported it to workers at the Snoqualmie Parks and Recreation Department, who then passed along the news to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Meadowbrook Farm is next to Centennial Fields Park and across the street from the "Three Forks Off-Leash Dog Park".

The areas are high traffic areas for children and pets.

Park officials are advising families to closely supervise the little ones and pets to reduce the risk of attack.

Last weeked, Fish and Wildlife officials captured a cougar in Seattle's Discovery Park after several people reported seeing a cougar. The park had been closed for several days while agents waited for the animal to show up.

Early Sunday morning, after two separate traps had been set, wildlife agents captured an approximately three-year-old, 140 pound male cougar.

Many Seattle residents wondered how such a wild animal was able to get so far into the city -- a rarity for the Seattle metropolitan area. The most recent sighting in Meadowbrook Farm is a little more to be expected, with the nearby Cascade Mountain range as a backdrop for the city.

After the cougar in Seattle was captured, agents took him to a remote location in Snohomish County near Index and released him.

There have also been recent reports of cougar sightings near Everett.

Anyone who sees or encounters a cougar is asked to report it to the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife at 1-877-933-9847.
