West Seattle -
This week area summer camps for kids are having to alter their activities to keep kids cool in this heat. In fact, The YMCA's Summer Camp in West Seattle changed most of their plans because of the hot weather.
"I woke up Monday morning and just knew it was not going to be a good idea to take forty kids up a hike in this heat,"said Ashley Burke, a YMCA camp director. "Our theme is' Fantastic Feets' so we were planning to do hiking and climbing and that stuff ,so we really had to transition over to the beach side of things to keep them cool."
As temperatures continue to heat up to record levels, the kids that we spoke to enjoyed the water activities. Six year old Leum says,"It felt really hot inside my body, felt like ninety degrees. So we went into the wading pool and drink a lot of water."
Water balloon fights and water guns have replaced hiking Rattlesnake Ridge. And the agenda for the rest of the week will include lots of playing in and drinking water. "We're just trying to keep them cool and hydrated," added Burke.
