SEATTLE - When you say the word co-workers, you probably think of people who work in the same office and industry as you. But co-working is taking on a slightly different meaning these days, in the small business world.

"Humans are social animals - we can't help it . We like to be around one another and that's what this is about," says Susan Evans with Office Nomads in Seattle.

The concept is called co-working.

"Professionals, they're independent so they don't want to work for a company. They want to do their own thing. That doesn't mean they want to be stuck at home all by themselves," says Jacob Sayles who founded Office Nomads.

Charles Redell is an associate magazine editor who rents out a space at Office Nomads. Fees range from $25 a day to $475 a month.

"It made more sense for me to go here because I was going completely bananas at home," says Redell.

Evans says the personal company is encouraging. There's also mental stimulation around every corner.

"Lots of chalk boards and white boards for brainstorming," says Evans. "There are also games just in case."

But for Ron, the goal isn't escaping his entrepreneurial isolation - it's diminishing the distraction.

"I have a daughter just over two and she can't understand why daddy can't play."

"It's amazing how much more work I get done just by being here," says Redell.

So there's a new spin on the concept of co-workers, which seems to be doing the job for these independent business people - like minds - bouncing ideas off of each other rather than bouncing off the walls.

"It's just really refreshing!"
