I-90 Bridge Repair Means Closure of 520 Bridge and I-90 Bike Path
SEATTLE - It could be a rough weekend for Seattle and Eastside drivers.

Several local bridges will close for a short time starting Friday afternoon. A barge transporting two 65-ton expansion joints and a large crane will be making its way from the Duwamish Waterway to the I-90 floating bridge starting Friday afternoon, July 10.

As it moves from Puget Sound to Lake Washington, several bridges will be affected Friday evening and Saturday morning. The I-90 bike and pedestrian path also will be closed when the new expansion joints are lifted into place.

According to WSDOT, here's what you need to know:

*The Ballard, Fremont, University and Montlake Bridges will all close intermittently between 5pm and 7pm Friday night.

* The 520 floating bridge will shut down after 9pm Friday for 30 to 45 minutes so the barge can pass through the draw span.

* Starting at 10pm through 6am Saturday morning, the bike and pedestrian path on I-90 will close so crews can lift the expansion joints into place.

* The 520 Bridge will close for 30 to 45 minutes between 3am and 6am Saturday morning so the barge can pass back through.

Be aware, all of this is happening on the same weekend of the Seattle to Portland Bike Ride. Riders will start gathering at the University of Washington at 4am. The Department of Transportation says participants need to be aware of these closures and plan ahead so they don't get stuck.
