KENT—
For man's best friend -- fireworks can be his worst enemy. The loud explosions can be terrifying for small pets, cats and dogs alike. And it sometimes sends them scurrying far from home.
That's why volunteers with the group "Missing Pet Partnership" were scouring the streets and parks of Federal Way and other communities today -- looking for any place where frightened dogs or cats may be hiding to escape the noise.
The group not only helps search, but also has some great ideas for finding spooked pets.
They include displaying bright-colored, fourescent flyers -- or tagging car windows with missing pet notices.
"Dogs run. Some dogs run and hide. But cats hide," said the organization's founder, Kat Albrecht. "And when you're looking for a missing cat, you need to get into your neighbors yards, with their permission, to look under and in every potential hiding place."
The group rents out surveillance cameras to catch spooked pets on video as they come out to look for food.
It also loans out humane traps.
Last year, it helped 31 families with lost pets and 80% of them got them back.
If you need help finding lost pet, Missing Pet Partnership volunteers will be at the Kent Animal Shelter from Noon to 6:00 pm, Tuesday and Wednesday.
