Fourth of July fireworks are everybody's favorite. Unless you're a four-legged creature.
Every year, hundreds of dogs and cats in the Puget Sound area are lost after being scarred by the holiday explosions. That's why Kat Albrecht is working overtime today. Albrecht runs the Missing Pet Partnership, and her crew is busy in the Seattle Humane parking lot, helping pet owners retrieve their beloved animals.
The volunteers are spending the day making posters and signs that will be posted around Seattle neighborhoods. Hoping to bring home the family pets.
Last year, the team helped rescue fourteen dogs and cats within days after the holiday. This year is much quieter, but people still file into the parking lot, hoping to find their pets.
Kristine Storm is here today after her Chihuahua Suhki ran away Friday night. She's visibly shaken, and worried Suhki may be gone forever.
"He's my baby", she says through tears.
The team quickly makes signs and flyers, passing them out in Storms Central Seattle Neighborhood. Within Twenty minutes, a neighbor stops in the intersection of 24th and Yesler, and asks volunteers if the missing dog has white paws. He does indeed, and the neighbor says Suhki is at her house, and doing well.
An hour later, Storm is reunited with Suhkii and the parking lot of the shelter. She smiles at suhki and tries not to cry.
"Yay! People are good. People are so good.", she says as Suhki wiggles in her arms.
As for Suhki, he's happy to back in his mom's arms, and hopes this adventure won't leave him in the doghouse.
